SIGUCCS 2012 Technical Program

The 2012 SIGUCCS conference, held in Memphis, Tennessee, will begin on the morning of Monday, October 15th and run through Friday, October 19th, 2011. The theme of this event, "IT-All Shook Up!" ties the rapid changes in information technology to a familiar lyric sung by a well-known former resident of that city. As such, this conference will bring together managers and support personnel who are charged with keeping up with new technologies, techniques, ideas, and insights. The annual SIGUCCS conference is the organization's summit event, combining the Management Symposium and the Service & Support Conference.

At the conference you will find myriad conference opportunities: you can choose the entire week of both conferences; you can register for either of the two conferences separately, and/or you can register for supplementary workshops.

The Management Sessions

During the first part of the week, presentations will cover issues closely related to management and leadership of higher education information technology. Sessions will be of the "facilitated discussion" format; no papers are written for these sessions, and they are expected to contain much audience interaction. Organized into 3 or more topic tracks, this segment of the weeklong event will appeal to frontline managers, mid-level managers, project leaders, and CIOs. It will also be valuable for those who aspire to these leadership positions or who are very new to management.

The event will begin on Sunday evening with an opening reception. On Monday morning is the Executive Seminar, and then the opening of the Management Symposium on Monday afternoon. "The Symposium ends at noon on Wednesday following a plenary session that also serves as the opening session of the Service & Support Conference." The Service & Support Sessions

Finding a cost-effective way to deal with the pace of change in technology is a key challenge of all universities. At the heart of all the changes are the people who provide direct technology support and services. During the latter part of the week, the SIGUCCS conference offers service & support providers with the opportunity to interact with peers and technical experts from all over the continent and beyond. The Service & Support conference focuses on technical skills and end user support services, with session topics organized into tracks. Discussing technologies, methods and reflections with equals is a great way to generate ideas and solutions that can be carried home to higher management.

This part of the weeklong event will consist of two days, beginning on Wednesday afternoon and concluding Friday at noon. Workshops will follow the Service & Support Conference on Friday afternoon.
