SIGUCCS XXIV will feature concurrent sessions which will be a mix of individual paper presentations, panel discussions, workshops and plenary sessions. These presentations will take place Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, September 30, October 1-2. Sessions include papers which are of broad interest and others which have a very specific focus.
In addition, BOFs (Birds-of-a-Feather) sessions will be scheduled during lunch and after the concurrent sessions (usually 5-6 pm) on Monday and Tuesday afternoons.
There will also be a documentation display where award-winning training materials and newsletters will be available for perusal.
Several pre-conference
tutorials will be offered on Sunday, September 29. (Note:
Attendance at pre-conference tutorials is not covered by the standard
conference fee and requires advance registration.)
Paper (Individual) Presentations
Each concurrent sessions will also include two or more choices which
consist of grouped papers presented by individuals. (Papers may have
more than one author/presenter.) Each presentation will last 20
minutes. A session chair will introduce the author(s) and keep the
presenters on schedule. The session chair will also conduct a
question-and-answer period after all papers have been presented.
Panel Discussions
Several concurrent sessions will include a panel discussion. A panel,
consisting of three or more individuals, will present various opinions
and/or issues related to a single topic. Presentations by panel members
followed by discussion between the panel and audience will be included
in the 90 minute session.
Conference Workshops
Another type of 90-minute session is the informal workshop. The
workshop format allows
a more in-depth look at an issue than is possible in an individual
presentation.
Pre-conference Tutorials
As is tradition at the SIGUCCS fall conference, a number of
pre-conference tutorials will be offered on Sunday, October 2.
Birds-of-a-Feather Sessions
Birds-of-a-Feather (BOF) sessions are informal gatherings of conference attendees for the purpose of sharing questions, concerns, solutions about a specific topic. BOF sign-up sheets will be located on a bulletin board near the Registration and Information Center.
If you wish to organize a BOF, simply write your name and the
title/subject of the BOF on one of the sign-up sheets. Watch this
bulletin board as activity surrounding BOFS is quite volatile.
NOTE: you don't need "permission" to start a BOF. Remember, if a topic
is important to you, it is most likely important and timely to a
significant portion of other SIGUCCS attendees. If there are any topics
you think should be addressed as a BOF, please let us know.
Documentation Display
A documentation display will be available throughout the conference. Documentation is supplied by participants for viewing by other conference attendees. Materials from the winning entrants in the Education and Training Materials competition and the Newsletter competition will be on display.
