Conference Facilities
The IMU Hoosier Room will serve as the Conference Office, late registration site, lost & found, and communications center. Here, staff will answer your questions, locate resources, schedule the Speaker Prep Room, and summon help for session chairs. Use the bulletin board outside this office to post messages for other attendees and to check on room locations for Birds-of-a-Feather sessions. (To start a sign-up sheet for a topic of your choice, pick up BoF forms in the office.) Be sure to stop by each morning for a copy of Sig98 Update, the daily conference newsletter.
The computer training room in IMU M088 will serve as the conference e-mail room. It will be staffed and open from 7:00am to 10:00pm daily, beginning Sunday evening and ending at noon on Wednesday. The 22 Windows workstations will be configured with Netscape Communicator, Internet Explorer, Telnet, and a scratch file for downloading. No printing is available, but you can take diskettes to the IMU's "Copies & More" shop (just down the hall) if you need printed copies. Please check with your network and/or security personnel to see if you need to make special arrangements for remote connections to your home campus resources.
Presenters, take advantage of the Speaker Prep Room where you can practice your speech while giving your presentation technologies a trial run. The room is equipped with a computer connected to the Internet, an overhead projector, and a screen. Reserve the room at the Conference Office. A consultant will be called if you need one.
Stop by for a drink, wind down after a technical session, drop off your coat, umbrella, and comfortable shoes, or get together with friends in the elegant University Club, the conference hospitality suite. Located conveniently near the back entrance to the Indiana Memorial Union, the University Club will be open and staffed all day throughout the conference. Please present your badge to the hostess when entering. (Bring along your sheet music and entertain your friends at the club's grand piano.)
You'll find topic signs on many of the lunch tables, giving you the opportunity to lunch and converse with colleagues with similar interests. To suggest topics, fill out the Volunteer or Send Suggestions form.
Each afternoon from 5:15 to 6:00, you can join your colleagues for informal conversation and discussion. To suggest a topic in advance, fill out the Volunteer or Send Suggestions form. Indicate whether you would like to lead the discussion. To suggest a topic at the conference, fill out a sign-up sheet at the conference office. These will be posted on the bulletin board outside the conference office throughout the day. At 5:00pm each day, topics with 5 or more signatures will be assigned a room for the discussions.
