The Association for Computing
Machinery is the world's oldest and largest educational and
scientific computing society. Since 1947 it has provided a vital forum for
the exchange of information, ideas, and discoveries. Today, ACM serves a
membership of more than 80,000 computing professionals in more than 100
countries in all areas of industry, academia, and government. One of its
many special interest groups is SIGUCCS, the Special
Interest Group for University & College Computing Services. SIGUCCS is
composed of professionals who support and manage the diverse aspects of
computing and information technology services in higher education
institutions. If you are not a member of SIGUCCS or ACM, you can find
information about how to join and receive regular publications from the
SIGUCCS Web site. Members receive a discounted rate for conference
registration and tutorials. Each fall, those of us who work in computing support organizations have
an opportunity to set aside the day-to-day demands of our jobs and come
together with our peers who understand what we do. We meet in the formal
settings of the technical program, where we share ideas through prepared
talks, workshops, and panel discussions; and we come together in the
relaxed atmosphere of lunches, breaks, birds-of-a-feather discussions, and
social events, where we share our experiences and learn how other campuses
meet their challenges. As one recent attendee put it, "This conference
left me with a feeling of excitement and energy toward my job and an
eagerness to adapt some of the ideas gleaned at SIGUCCS to improve our
services back home." Conference planned by Last updated 5 NOVEMBER 98 |
