Welcome!
We
would like to invite you to join us in Portland for
SIGUCCS 2001. This year's SIGUCCS User Services Conference
will be held at the Portland Marriott, on the banks
of the Willamette River. Flowing from south to north
the river divides Portland, while ten bridges join the
communities living on both sides. The bridges come in
all shapes and sizes but all fulfill their function
of spanning the gap, connecting neighborhoods, and bringing
people together.
SIGUCCS
2001 will provide an opportunity for us to discuss ways
in which we can bridge the gap between technology and
the people on our campuses. Portland's bridges inspire
us to think about how we maintain our own bridges, what
makes a good linkage and what new connections we can
build both within our campus and to other campuses.
As User Service professionals we build bridges that
enable us to network with colleagues, share our knowledge
with faculty, link our campus communities technically
and personally and discover new ways of supporting computer
users on our campuses. The fall User Services Conference
is a great way to talk to your peers, find out you're
not alone (and maybe someone else has solved that problem
which has been bugging you for the past 6 months) and
build bridges to colleagues around the world.
The
final program is now
available online as a PDF document. It lists the keynote
speakers, faculty presentation on how they use technology
in their classrooms, sessions on support, instructional
technology, staffing issues, up and coming ideas, and
a variety of other topics. Plus a poster session with
lots of small presentations and some tutorials you won't
want to miss.
The
conference is also a chance to have a lot of fun, a
sweatshirt reception featuring local microbrewery beers
and Willamette valley wines, a fun run/walk along the
river, and a cruise on the Willamette River. There will
be a hospitality suite open from 10:00am to 1:00am,
plus the chance to explore all the great things in Portland.
We look forward to seeing you in Portland for SIGUCCS
2001.
