Hotel & Travel Information

Lodging

The host hotel for the Fall Conference 2004 is the Baltimore Waterfront Marriott. Room reservations with special SIGUCCS rates are available through the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront's SIGUCCS 2004 room reservation web site. As of September 15, the room block at the Marriott was filling quickly.

As the room block at the host hotel fills, you might want to check out these alternate hotels in the Inner Harbor Area.

Looking to share a room at the Marriott? Check out the SIGUCCS 2004 Online Forum.

Getting to Baltimore

Baltimore is centrally located along the eastern seaboard, just north of Washington, D.C. Detailed travel information will help you arrange your travel plans.

What to do in Baltimore

While you're at the conference, you'll undoubtedly want to explore Baltimore.

We've compiled a list of museums, historical attractions, city tours, and local events happening at the same time as the conference.

Also, the hotel has a very comprehensive list of businesses, including restaurants, dry cleaners, churches and synagogues, pubs, and golf courses. Click here to go to their website, then go to their "business and attraction locator."

What Should I Pack?

The conference by day is business casual, with some presenters donning a bit more formal wear (jacket and tie/dress or pant suit). By night, the events tend to the casual, with many folks heading out for an autumn-night stroll with friends.

Aside from your usual packing list for a three-day event, we recommend the following additions:

  • A sweatshirt emblazoned with your college or university's name for the Opening Night Reception (a good conversation-starter, and traditional to wear on the first night).
  • A comfortable pair of walking shoes to explore the waterfront area.
  • A sweater to don in the technical sessions; many people find that the conference rooms can get chilly during the day.
  • If you have a laptop with a wireless card, it will be eligible for network service in the conference areas, included in your registration (the hotel charges an extra daily fee for access in your room, but we wil be providing wireless in the conference area). Note: if you don't want to lug your laptop with you, there wil be plenty of computers in the "e-mail room" which are for your use. The e-mail room is open from 7:00am - 7:00pm.
  • Your running/walking shoes, if you're interested in doing the SIGUCCS 5k Fun Run/Walk on Sunday afternoon (you get a free t-shirt). There will also be morning runs from the host hotel (approximately 3 miles/run, moderate pace), as well as daily yoga sessions to start your day off right.
