Program InformationAfter 32 years of providing informative (and fun) conferences, SIGUCCS continues to chart and chronicle the course of technological change. Attendees of the first SIGUCCS conference (held in Chicago in 1973) most likely discussed how to manage mainframes, form centralized User Services departments, and address the needs of the research and administrative communities. With the introduction of desktop computing, training people to use computers to perform the work of the academy and managing Help Desk staff became important. Of late, conference participants learn about supporting a growing number of web-based, desktop, and hand-held digital applications despite the shrinking numbers of support staff. The conference offers pre-conference tutorials, technical sessions, keynote speakers, and "birds of a feather" sessions. Pre-Conference TutorialsPre-conference tutorials are half-day sessions that offer participants in-depth content that focuses on management techniques, technical skills or professional development. All pre-conference tutorials require pre-registration and are not included in the conference registration fee. Before starting the registration process, review the detailed pre-conference tutorial information to make your selection. Keynote SpeakersTwo keynote speakers will appear at the 2004 Fall Conference, Annie Stunden and Ben Shneiderman. The Technical ProgramEach SIGUCCS Fall Conference provides you with the opportunity to meet new people, observe fresh perspectives on common problems, and celebrate the creative solutions that make working in university and college computing environments rewarding. The SIGUCCS Fall Conference features two and a half days of technical presentations, with keynote speakers highlighting the opening and closing plenary sessions. Technical sessions fall into one of these seven track categories:
Birds of a Feather Sessions (BOFs)Birds of a Feather sessions are extemporaneous opportunities for conference participants to meet informally to discuss topics of common interest. BOF sign-up sheets will be available at the Conference Information area. Individuals can create their own BOF or sign up for one that interests them. BOFs are held at the end of each day of technical sessions. Want to suggest a Birds-of-a-Feather (BOF) topic? Check out the SIGUCCS 2004 Online Forum. |
