Sunday,
November 6:
The conference begins on Sunday, November
6th. Registration will be open beginning on Saturday, November
5th at 7 P.M.
If you're planning to attend a tutorial,
you'll want to arrive sometime on November 5th. If you're
not going to attend one of these exceptional, in-depth tutorials,
you should plan to arrive in time to attend Sweatshirt
Reception, which starts at 7 P.M. on Nov. 6th. This
is when we all wear an article of clothing (sweatshirt, denim
shirt, polo shirt, etc.) sporting the name of our college
or university and get a chance to greet old friends and make
new ones. This is a not-to-miss event!
 |
Also, if you're a first-time-attendee,
you'll want to attend the Newcomer's Orientation
on Nov. 6th, which starts at 5:30 P.M.
If you haven't been to the Monterey
area before, you may want to arrive a little early and/or
stay a little late. The
area has lots to offer!
|
Also, our annual 5K Fun Run/Walk will start at 4 P.M. on Sunday, right outside the hotel. Everyone is encouraged to particpate, either as a runner or a walker.
As long as you're coming to Monterey,
you may want to participate in the Big
Sur Half Marathon, taking place the morning of November
6th, leaving you plenty of time to get ready for the opening
reception.
Monday, November 7:
Monday will begin with a continental
breakfast, available starting at 7 A.M.
The
main part of the technical program begins Monday morning.
The first keynote
speaker, Howard Rheingold, will begin his talk
at approximately 9 A.M., after some vital opening remarks
by the Conference Committee.
Parallel technical sessions
will then take place throughout the day until 5 P.M., followed
by hour-long Birds-of-a-Feather sessions (BOFs).
 |
Lunch will be provided on Monday. Dinner will be on
your own, allowing you to partake of one of the many
exceptional
restaurants in the area.
Monday night, November 7th, starting at 8 P.M., the
fun-filled Ice-Cream Social will be
held. This has become a much-anticipated annual event!
|
At this time, we'll also have an opportunity
to Meet the Contributors, the vendors who have
contributed resources to helping make our conference a success!
They'll be on hand to discuss and/or show their products, and
relate information about future technologies and enhancements.
Tuesday,
November 8:
A continental breakfast
will be provided, beginning at 7 A.M. Parallel technical
sessions will start at 8:30 A.M. and continue throughout
the day until 5 P.M. BOFs will again be held
from 5-6 P.M.
Lunch on Tuesday will be provided. During
this event, we'll be able to view the Posters created by colleagues
for the Poster Sessions, which present projects
and much useful information. During dessert, from 1:30-3 P.M.,
you'll be able to walk around and discuss the displays with
the presenters.
 |
You won't want to miss this year's
Gala Event,
an evening at the renowned Monterey Bay Aquarium.
We'll have a strolling dinner while we walk amongst the
exhibits in the newer Outer
Bay Wing. |
Wednesday, November 9:
 |
Communication Award winners
will be honored at a special breakfast beginning at 7
A.M. Wednesday. See the Communication
Awards link for information on how to participate.
Other attendees will have a continental breakfast
available to them, beginning at 7 A.M. Parallel
technical sessions begin at 8:30 A.M. and end
at 10 A.M. |
Don't plan to leave
until after the final Plenary Session. The
keynote speaker,
Fr.William Padavick, will finish his talk at noon. This should
be another highlight of the conference!
With the conference ending at noon,
you should not plan a flight (if flying from Monterey) until
after 2:30 P.M., allowing yourself time to get to the airport
and get checked in. If time allows, you may want to have one
more lunch in the Monterey area, networking with colleagues.
So,
mark your calendars, reserve your hotel rooms, get registered
for the conference, and make your travel arrangements. Then,
in November, hang your "Gone Fishing" signs on your
doors! We're looking forward to seeing you in Monterey!
