SIGUCCS is one of 37 Special Interest Groups of the Association for Computing Machinery, and was founded in 1963. It is an association of professionals who support and manage the diverse aspects of information technology services in higher education institutions. SIGUCCS focuses on issues surrounding the support, delivery and management of information technology services in higher education. These include, but are not limited to: network management, technical systems support, end user services (training, documentation, consulting, etc.), operations, administrative and academic programming services, database management, curricular support, audiovisual services, educational technology issues, and others. Our primary goal is to provide a forum for the professional development of individual members, through conferences, publications, and other services. We sponsor two conferences each year: the fall User Services Conference, which is held in varying locations, and the spring Computer Services Management Symposium, traditionally held at the downtown St. Louis Marriott Pavilion Hotel. |

All activities of CSMS '99 will be held at the beautiful Marriott Pavilion Hotel, at the intersection of Broadway and Market Streets in downtown St. Louis. The hotel is near the Gateway Arch, Union Station, and other points of interest. Lodging reservations are the responsibility of the registrant. Please call the Marriott Pavilion at (314) 421-1776 and state that you are attending the ACM SIGUCCS Computer Services Management Symposium. You should receive a conference rate of $90 for a single room or $95 for a double. Please note that the deadline for booking a room at the Marriott at this rate is February 12, 1999. If you call after that date, there may not be rooms available, and the conference rate is not guaranteed. |

Air Transportation St. Louis is served by several major airlines and is a hub for TWA. In order to be present for all of the conference events, plan to arrive in St. Louis by mid morning on Sunday, March 7, and leave in mid afternoon on Tuesday, March 9. You may wish to consider arriving in St. Louis on Saturday evening, March 6, 1999, to take advantage of weekend airfares, which usually offset an additional night's lodging expense. Local transportation between the airport and the hotel Airport shuttles leave from the St. Louis airport (near gate 13 in the baggage area) about every half hour and deliver passengers to various downtown hotels. Alternatively, a taxi ride from the airport to the hotel the airport is about $30 and takes about 30 minutes. Perhaps the most economical (and fun!) way to get from the airport to the hotel is to ride the Metrolink. It runs directly from the airport, costs $3, and will drop you off approximately two blocks from the hotel. You need to give yourself about an hour for the trip. If you've got the time, don't have too much luggage and don't mind the short walk to the hotel, it's recommended. |
