Come join your higher education colleagues at the Twenty Sixth Annual Computer Services Management Symposium (CSMS '99), sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery's Special Interest Group for University and College Computing Services (ACM SIGUCCS).

For the first time in many years, we have scheduled the symposium to start on a weekend so that registrants can take advantage of weekend airfares. CSMS '99 will begin at 1:30 PM on Sunday, March 7, 1999 and end at approximately 12:30 PM on Tuesday, March 9, 1999.

This year, we'll be "Talking it Over" in a series of plenary sessions and parallel facilitated discussion groups, covering a wide range of today's challenging issues in higher education Information Technology environments.

Following the tradition of the past 25 years, CSMS '99 will be a small, comfortable conference, designed especially to provide ample opportunities for one-on-one conversation, as well as facilitated larger discussions. Unlike many other IT conferences, the CSMS '99 is intended to provide you with informal, close-up opportunities to talk with colleagues from both large and small institutions, public and private. We're confident that you'll find this a rewarding conference and time well spent.

The CSMS '99 program presents plenty of opportunities for IT professionals in higher education to share our ideas, our concerns, and our solutions in helping to maintain baseline services as we stretch to provide new services.

I look forward to seeing you!

Special Event: A Memorial and Tribute to Penny Crane

Penny Crane, long time member of both ACM and SIGUCCS, died on January 5, 1999. Penny served in many positions in our SIG and was a dedicated member of our organization for well over 25 years. Throughout this time she remained a close friend, colleague and mentor to many hundreds of people who participated in ACM SIGUCCS events. In particular, Penny was always interested in seeing that attendees of SIGUCCS events were made to feel welcome.

On late Sunday afternoon, March 7, 1999, at the CSMS '99 in St. Louis, we will have a special session to remember Penny. Everyone is invited to attend.

If you would like to contribute some memories of Penny for this event, please contact John Bucher at john.bucher@oberlin.edu
