Session Description

Management Track, Session I
Session topic: Managing Digital Assets
Session presenter: Terris Wolff, Pomona College
Format: Focus session-presentation followed by q & a discussion
Description:
Remember how much easier it was when the information assets for an institution were contained on some punch cards, in files stored in the steam tunnels, and in collections of photo negatives in PR-with each area managing its own information? Today there is a growing surfeit of institutional information--and all of it digital. There is a growing glut of documents, images, videos, web pages, links, graphics, etc.--all contained on workstations and servers throughout the institution. A growing challenge for IT managers is to manage those institutional assets. To archive and store them, to be able to find specific items when necessary, etc. This session will provide a presentation on strategies, tips, software, and methodologies for managing those assets. The presentation will be followed by a question and answer discussion period, where individuals can share their dilemmas and solutions!
