| Description: | |
| Authentication used to be so simple. A small number of people would fill out a form to get an account on the one machine they could use, then come in person in a day or two to get their username and password. Now, almost everyone associated with the university has accounts on multiple machines, not to mention accounts for web services. And some of the students never come near the campus. Collaboration and sharing of resources with other campuses will complicate the issue even more. Kerberos has been a solution on some campuses for years, but it is not for everyone. Does LDAP hold the answer? How about Internet2's Shibboleth and WebISO projects? Will they play a significant part, or does Microsoft hold the key? | |
