Biographical Sketch:
In April of 1996, after nearly 20 years of User Services experience dedicated to supporting the computing needs of faculty and students, I came to UNCG as the Director of Instructional and Research Computing. Before becoming Director of IRC, I worked in Academic Computing Services at the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire from 1978 to 1996. I have been, at one time or another, an operator, data processing manager, programmer, consultant, user services manager, and operations manager.

My background includes degrees in Computer Science, Technical Writing and a Masters of Education in Professional Development with an emphasis on adult learning and training material design. I have taught Information Systems Design, Electronic Discourse and User Documentation, Advanced Technical Writing, Document Management, Manual Design, and Research Methodology. In 1993 and again in 1995, it was my honor to travel to the Wisconsin State Capital with two groups of UWEC history students as they testified before select committees of the State Legislature on their research--the first on the Death Penalty in Wisconsin and the second on Welfare Reform. I have published articles, both nationally and internationally, and given conference presentations and workshops on topics relating to user services, operations, and manual design. On several occasions, I have had the opportunity to introduce undergraduate student employees to professional conferences as the conferences' first student presenters.

I am a National Writing Project Writing Fellow; and a member of Phi Delta Kappa, National Council of Teachers of English, Association of Computing Machinery, and Society of Technical Communication. I am also a member of the Virtual Consulting Staff - a loosely organized group of several academic computing staff members, from universities across the United States, who met at ACM-SIGUCCS and who are dedicated to helping one another in the support of our respective user communities.
