Speaker Bio

Janet R. de Vry is manager of Instructional Services for IT/User Services at the University of Delaware. She is responsible for training and support for faculty in teaching with technology and for the educational programs in computing for faculty and staff. Her responsibilities include managing:

  • Training and consulting for WebCT, our campus course management system
  • Teaching, learning, technology site knows as PRESENT (Practical Resources for Educators Seeking Effective New Technologies)
  • Bi-annual Faculty Teaching, Learning, and Technology Institutes which involve coordination with a number of campus partners
  • Education seminars for the entire campus community including programming for an educational computing channel on the campus cable system and self-paced learning
  • Grant programs that enable faculty to gain extra assistance in applying technology to learning.

Janet has a B.A. in history from Temple University and an M.S. Ed from the University of Pennsylvania. She taught African and Asian History and History of Western Civilization for six years at the secondary level. She was a freelance computing instructor in industry before starting part-time at the University of Delaware. Ever since joining the User Services staff full time in 1989, she has managed the computing educational programs. She enjoys discovering where technology can make the greatest difference in learning. She presents regularly at conferences and has written articles and chapters on educational technology.
