Speaker Bio

Kevin Morooney has worked for Information Technology Services (ITS) at Penn State since 1988. Prior to joining ITS, he worked in real-time data systems in a clinical laboratory setting at The Johns Hopkins Hospital within Johns Hopkins University's School of Medicine. Currently, Kevin serves as the senior director of Academic Services and Emerging Technologies (ASET), a unit of ITS, where he oversees three groups: Advanced Information Technologies (AIT), Graduate Education and Research Services (GEaRS) and Emerging Technologies (ET). He oversees the teams and activities that provide Penn State community members with the IT tools, infrastructure and support they need to be successful in their teaching, learning and research endeavors. These include a wide range of centralized computing services, including the Penn State Access Account, e-mail, University Park modems, Web space, Penn State Access Account Storage Space (PASS), the Penn State Portal, Penn State WebMail, file backup, vendor software and distribution support, in addition to high performance computing, visualization and emerging technologies. Previous to his role as the senior director of ASET, Kevin served as a programmer then manager of the High Performance Computing Group (HPC), a service group of GEaR. He then served as the director of GEaRS for three years before accepting his current post. Kevin graduated from Virginia Tech with a B.S. in Engineering Science and Mechanics. When he's not working, he also serves State College Area High School as the head coach of the girls' soccer program where he was selected as PA Coach of the Year in 2001.
