Securing Sensitive Information Across Campus

Data security is a hot topic these days due to increasing publicity surrounding numerous cases of lost or stolen computing hardware, media or storage containing sensitive information. This could be disastrous for the reputation of a College or University due to vast numbers of students, alumni, faculty, staff, potential donors and other constituents who may be affected by the loss of sensitive data. The University of Delaware and Lehigh University have embarked on initiatives to help University departments secure their sensitive data. Each University took measures to identify potential data security risks, conducted awareness campaigns and established guidelines for departments to follow. The issues encountered during these processes will be discussed and examined as well as the lessons learned and future plans and applications.
