Campus Copyright Culture: Inform, Conform, ReformPresenters: The problem of illegal file sharing continues to be a concern on college campuses, within the entertainment industry, and in the U.S. Congress. Our discussion will focus on how universities and colleges are tackling the problems associated with this issue. Like most campuses, we attempt to reduce piracy through educational efforts, increased institutional enforcement, and the increased accessibility of legitimate online services. We will start by briefly reviewing how University of Delaware computing policies and procedures have evolved into current practices. Throughout the session, we will discuss the following topics: legal alternatives, consequences students face, filtering or blocking network traffic, and educational efforts. Although measuring the effectiveness of policy and practice is difficult, we will share the results of student surveys, interviews, and other data that suggest a gradual shift in student behavior. By sharing ideas and exploring options, participants might find new strategies and approaches that apply to their educational environment.
