Faculty initiation and use of Classroom Response Systems: Use of the iClicker Classroom System
Presenters:
Dr. Edna Ross, University of Louisville
Dr. Lee Gibson, University of Louisville
Mark Rubenstein, University of Louisville
In the fall of 2004, three members of the Arts and Sciences faculty at the University of Louisville embarked upon an ambitious endeavor: to incorporate the use of a classroom response system into their courses. Unlike many other implementations of classroom response systems, this was a unique situation in that it was entirely faculty driven and faculty owned. Faculty assumed training and development responsibilities of themselves and graduate teaching assistants while IT focused on hardware installation and maintenance. Each faculty taught large enrollment classes of at least 200 students. One of the faculty involved with this initial use of a classroom response system will share the lessons learned in the pedagogical development of both instructional and assessment uses of the initial system and of the subsequent iClicker system. Other faculty will discuss the use of the iClicker system in undergraduate mathematics courses. IT’s role in faculty support, development and training on classroom response systems will be discussed as well. This session also will allow participants to interact with presenters via the iClicker Classroom Response System.
