myVCU Portal - Opening new doors and making life easier

Presenter: Jim Yucha, Virginia Commonwealth University

The myVCU Portal went live in November 2004. The initial focus was geared towards current students in order to provide them with seamless and dashboard-like access to applications such as Blackboard. There have been many additions since the original 15 portlets were released. Today there are over 20 portlets which grant dashboard (and single sign-on) access to Banner, E-mail, Community Information (Traffic, Movies, etc.) and 100`s of RSS feeds.

This session will include a demonstration of the myVCU portal which has grown from a meager 200 logins a day to over 12,000 logins a day. Together, we will discuss various portal-related issues, ways to get faculty, staff and students to use the portal, the relationship between the university web site and the portal, and innovative and future uses of the portal.
