Identity Management: The State of the Practice on Higher Education

Creating a secure and flexible identity infrastructure has become one of the top concerns of higher education IT units, thanks to identity theft, federal authentication initiatives, and the emergence of identity federations. This session will present results of an EDUCAUSE Center for Applied Research (ECAR) study of identity management practices at 403 colleges and universities in North America. We'll look at how respondents rate the importance of identity management benefits and their institutions' ability to deliver them; identity policies and business practices; technology adoption in such areas as authentication and enterprise directories; and identity management project funding and staffing.
