IT Leadership Professional Development

This interactive workshop will enable a three-part discussion among attendees to address:

1. the “professional-ization” of IT at all career levels
2. leadership without direct authority
3. developing a customized professional development plan

Technicians, managers and administrators working in higher education IT are expected to exhibit technical knowledge and expertise, to have effective task skills, and to demonstrate leadership skills as these individuals climb the IT career ladder.  Participation in this workshop should assist in finding the answers to several key questions.  What should the IT professional do to develop the appropriate skill set?  What formal and informal credentials and certifications make sense?  I want to be a CIO, what skills are really needed to do this job?  I do not have a lot of authority in my job, how do I practice and demonstrate leadership?  How do I align my interests and strengths with the goals of my organization?
