Panel Discussion: Harley LingerfeltHarley Lingerfelt serves as the Vice President for Information Management and Technology at the Savannah College of Art and Design. The Savannah College of Art and Design is a private, non-profit, accredited college awarding bachelor of fine arts, master of architecture, Master of Arts and master of fine arts degrees. The college offers 30 major areas of study: advertising design, animation, architecture, architectural history, art history, broadcast design, fashion, fibers, film and television, furniture design, graphic design, historic preservation, illustration, industrial design, interactive design and game development, interior design, media and performing arts, metals and jewelry, painting, photography, sequential art, sound design and visual effects. Minors are offered in each of the major programs as well as in dance, decorative arts, drawing, electronic design, interaction design, museum studies, printmaking, sculpture, sound design and writing. This position was created in recognition of the growing role and importance of technology on campus and the information that is managed through the use of technology in the development of academic programs and administrative infrastructure. Harley has been with the College for ten years and has been instrumental in the planning and implementation of the campus network and Banner, the software that runs virtually all administrative functions of the College. Most recently, Mr. Lingerfelt coordinated the development of MySCAD. MySCAD is the one stop intranet that connects faculty, staff and students with the information they need. For example, students can register for classes, attending classes on line and pay their bills all though MySCAD. In addition, Mr. Lingerfelt oversees the creation of other data bases to manage housing assignments, car registrations, online donations and many more. Before his appointment, Mr. Lingerfelt served the college as Director of Institutional Research and Computer Resources. Mr. Lingerfelt also directs and approves the purchase of all college computer hardware and software and oversees the maintenance of over 70 campus computer labs for Savannah and Atlanta campuses. As a part of this effort, Mr. Lingerfelt conducts annual technology meetings with Vice Presidents, Deans and Chairs to develop the annual technology capital budget for the college. Mr. Lingerfelt designed and oversees the development of the SCAD Professional Development Center at SCAD Atlanta. The Professional Development Center will deliver a level of customized education, training and consultation that connects specialized academic instruction to a wide range of practical applications in the design field. The curriculum will provide practicing professionals with opportunities to enhance their skills, network with peers and experience SCAD’s unique, state-of-the-art learning environment through a series of intensive workshops offered throughout the year. Presently, he is coordinating the development of the new college strategic plan. This plan is being developed to guide the college for the next five years. Before coming to the College, Mr. Lingerfelt served for 23 years with the State of Oklahoma. For eleven years, he was the Director, Research and Planning Division for the Oklahoma Department of Commerce in Oklahoma City. Mr. Lingerfelt received his Masters Degree from the University of Oklahoma and his Bachelors of Arts Degree from University of Central Oklahoma. More information about this Panel Discussion.
