Title: The IT Leader's Survival Guide

Today's IT leader has to build the IT airplane while it flies. To succeed, IT leaders must master and marshall a wide variety of skills and perspectives. This session will take a hands-on, interactive approach to exploring the key strategies, skills and perspectives that an IT leader needs in starting, nourishing, and sustaining a long and productive career. Some of the topics covered will include taking the pulse of your institution and organization, marketing IT, engaging stakeholders, balancing long-term and short-term planning, funding IT, leading in 360 degrees, and maintaining work and life balance.

Biography

Dr. Dennis A. Trinkle is Provost and Chief Academic Officer for Harrison College. Prior to joining Harrison, he served as the Executive Director of the Indiana Higher Education Telecommunication System (IHETS). Trinkle has served both leading public and private colleges and universities as a faculty member and senior administrator, including the University of Cincinnati, the University of Indianapolis, DePauw University, and Valparaiso University. He has also led information technology, marketing, and venture capital enterprises in Indiana and Ohio. Trinkle has been a Fellow of the Frye Leadership Institute and International Center for Computer-Enhanced Learning at Wake Forest University. He has served on numerous corporate and non-profit Boards, including Trine University, College Mentors for Kids, Opelin Corporation, eLrn, Askahistorian.com, Student Advantage, and the Gale Group. The author or editor of more than sixteen books, his recent works include: The Elements of e-Style: A Multimedia Style Guide; The History Highway: A Guide to Internet Resources; Writing, Teaching, and Researching History in the Electronic Age; and History.Edu: Essays on Teaching with Technology. For his leadership and innovation, Trinkle has received numerous honors and awards, including the EDUCAUSE Award for Systemic Progress in Teaching and Learning, the TechPoint Mira Award, and recognition by the Innovators' Society of Northwestern Indiana.
