Title: EDU@2020: School of Athens or Mr. Ford's Factory

The Digital Age is progressing and information technologies are maturing. They are so good in fact, that they make it possible for us to reconsider fundamental things about how we are delivering the higher education mission. Some technologies are becoming disruptive and the shape and nature of some industries like the recording industry, newspapers, and others are undergoing profound change.

This session will look at how future IT leaders will begin to rely less on technical prowess and will be utilized in much more daring ways to assist the institution's leadership. The successful IT leader will need to be part of the team that develops a compelling vision for the institution, develops a delivery system and infrastructure to bring that vision to life, develops the policies and incentives that get people aligned with that vision, and deploys flexible systems that will make it possible to extend the institute's footprint across the community, or across the globe.

Title: Everything I Needed to Know about I.T. Leadership I Learned from Star Trek

"Everything I needed to know about life I learned from Star Trek" is a simple list of key themes from the original Star Trek TV series. These themes provide an unusual, but useful perspective on life. But what if we were to apply those themes to leadership and management of information systems? This presentation is a humorous and non-prescriptive look at the leadership skills needed to run an information systems organization. The speaker looks at how these rules apply to creating digital technology solutions at in the higher education environment and how to manage the implementation of those solutions.
