The University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Division of Information Technology (DoIT) seeks an experienced, resourceful person to lead its User Services Department. This position reports to the Executive Director of DoIT and serves as a member of the DoIT leadership team.

User Services encompasses help desk, knowledgebase, product sales, licensing, computer labs, IT repair, and desktop support for departments, faculty, staff and students at UW-Madison and UW System. The Director of User Services provides leadership in developing, planning, and implementing long- and short-term goals, projects, and initiatives and ensures that DoIT provides a reliable, timely, secure, and responsive customer-support environment. The director works closely with campus leaders, UW System’s IT office, and other UW institutions and is a key point of contact for IT vendors.

The director’s major responsibility is department leadership, including budget development and monitoring (departmental expenses and revenue total about $20 million), managing staff, and ensuring that campus units receive the support they need. Other duties include ensuring that technologies are in place to support teaching, learning, and research; leading planning activities; and developing policies for support, licensing, and sales programs.

The successful applicant will have at least a Bachelor’s degree and eight years of experience managing professional technical staff in a complex higher education or research organization. He or she must be conversant with technology trends in academic and personal computing and be able to conceptualize and articulate IT solutions to campus leaders, such as the chancellor, provost, deans and directors, and others in the campus community. Experience must include developing and managing a budget greater than $1 million and negotiating complex contracts. The position requires demonstrated success in providing high-quality customer support, implementing new technologies, working collaboratively in a diverse setting, and leading academic technology activities that support faculty. The position also requires experience with IT service management frameworks such as ITIL and with systems that support retail sales and customer service, such as point-of-sale, inventory, and problem tracking.

The environment consists of SungardHE Banner software based on an Oracle database.  The primary focus will be on application support, queries, reports and some new development of additional capabilities for the base software package.
 
Qualifications: The applicant should have an undergraduate degree or equivalent experience. A strong technical background is required, primarily experience with Oracle based information systems and significant knowledge of SQL and PL/SQL. The Application Developer should have the ability to employ such tools as would be required to extract, report upon and analyze data as it exists within a complex Oracle database. Strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Oracle Developer (forms) programming would be a definite plus, as would SungardHE Banner experience. Some familiarity with Unix operating systems and with Oracle Web programming would be helpful.

Program Manager, ACT Program

The University of Maryland, College Park seeks a Program Manager will have responsibility for the operations and growth of the OIT ACT computer purchase program and the Terrapin Technology Store. The incumbent will have duties including, but not limited to, retail staffing and operation, vendor contact and relations, departmental coordination, coordination of publicity, performance tracking and reporting plus knowledge and analysis of personal computing trends. While working in cooperation with members of multiple University departments, the incumbent will report to an OIT Director.           

The position will have duties in four areas:
           
Overall Program Management - responsibilities include development and maintenance of the business plan, sales forecasting, budget management, program growth, sales reporting, inventory management, and customer satisfaction for the (ACT) program, the Terrapin Technology Store and the Apple Reseller Agreement.

Terrapin Technology Store (retail store) - responsibilities include staffing, inventory control and security, publicity and marketing, establishing and maintaining written procedures for store operation, reporting and analysis of sales figures, liason to Stamp Student Union management, representation of ACT program in appropriate student/campus functions and events such as presentations to prospective students and parents at orientation, university open house events, and the First Look Fair.

Academic Computer for Terps (ACT) - responsibilities include reporting and analysis of ACT web based sales results and trends, contribute to operations of OIT Warranty Desk, response to customer inquiries in a timely fashion, represent ACT in dealings with students/parents/staff, liason to OIT Communications for ACT publicity, coverage of and response to personal computing trends and, in particular,  vendor specific schedules and plans, liason for program to Help Desk, USS management and CIO's office.  Additional responsibilities include contact with vendor sales and technical representatives to ensure a high degree of responsiveness and communication, vendor contract compliance, oversight of vendor' ACT web sites, and coordination of USS imaging services for the program.

Apple Campus Reseller Agreement - responsibilities include management of the campus Apple reseller agreement, sales forecasting and growth, maintenance of the Apple Institutional Purchase web pages, order processing and coordination between the Program and College/Departmental buyers, customer satisfacation, reporting and analysis of sales figures, liason to campus purchasers, vendor staff and University procurement and finance staff.

To be eligible, the candidate must hold a Bachelor's degree or equivalent required, business or finance degree preferred and have a minimum of three years working in an information technology intensive environment. Past experience in project management in a leadership role, knowledge of personal computing platforms and applications (Macintosh a plus), past successes in leading projects and people, and demonstrated record in achieving goals are expected.  Retail experience a strong plus. The successful candidate will show an ability to set goals and see tasks to completion, excellent communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills including encouraging cooperation and performance, strong attention  to detail, able to adjust priorities and tasks as needed, and is able to handle mutiple priorities at one time. The University of Maryland, College Park seeks a Field Support Manager who will have overall responsibility for the Field Support group within the User Support unit of the Office of Information Technology (OIT). This position will be responsible for devising, implementing, evaluating and continually evolving the on-site customer support function for the Office of Information Technology.  This group provides onsite support for campus users who seek assistance through the OIT Help Desk, for users of technology classrooms, and for users in colleges who have contracted with OIT for remote onsite support.  The onsite support includes desktop support, desktop imaging support, classroom support (which includes onsite user help and AV support) and computer lab support.  This position is also responsible for managing the relationships with those customers who have contracted with OIT for support and ensuring that the terms of the contract are being met.  Responsibilities include resource allocation management, quality assurance, and financial and budgetary management.

This position is required to work in collaboration with the Help Desk Manager to provide quick and accurate resolution to customer problems.  This includes working in partnership to effectively escalate incidents and provide onsite support as required.

This position is also required to work in collaboration with the Coordinator of the Academic Computers for Terps (ACT) program and provide support in two primary areas: the incumbent will supervise the timely and efficient creation of image files to be used on machine provided under ACT, and the incumbent will also partner with the Help Desk Manager in staffing and operating the ACT Warranty Desk.

To be eligible, the candidate must hold a bachelor's degree in information technology or a related field and have a minimum of five (5) years full-time experience in IT Support, including at least three (3) years in a supervisory or management position.  Knowledge in contract and/or SLA development and negotiation and experience providing IT support in a university or research environment are desired.  The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal skills, a demonstrated ability to work in sensitive situations, excellent customer relations skills and service-oriented business focus, the ability to manage and lead a team of professional employees, the ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently, the ability to be flexible and responsive in setting and adjusting priorities, the ability to function as part of a management team to strategically plan direction of service, the ability to set goals and objectives and the ability to collaborate with diverse groups (administrators, faculty, staff and students).  Salary is commensurate with qualifications.  Excellent leave, medical coverage, retirement, and tuition-remission benefits.
