2. Attend a Conference
ACM SIGUCCS sponsors two conferences each year: The SIGUCCS Fall Conference and SIGUCCS Management Symposium. For more information, visit our conference information page.
3. Become a SIGUCCS Conference Volunteer
All of the work to make the SIGUCCS conferences happen is done by a team of volunteers. Opportunities include presenting at a conference, reviewing papers, serving as a session chair (introducing a speaker, collecting evaluation forms), helping stuff conference welcome bags, working the conference help desk or serving on a conference planning committee.
If you are interested in volunteering for a conference, please contact our vice-chair/conference liasion to get involved.
4. Volunteer to support and shape the SIGUCCS organization
Many who have volunteered at SIGUCCS conferences seek further involvement through volunteering to serve the organization. In addition to the elected officers (Chair, Vice Chair/Conference Liaison, Secretary, Treasurer, Information Director), SIGUCCS has committees that support the Board's activities. Members of these committees, e.g. for Membership and Marketing, are appointed by the Board. All of these people, elected and appointed are volunteers and you could be one of them! Serving the organization in one of these capacities will provide you with an excellent professional development opportunity while making sure your SIGUCCS colleagues continue to experience a vibrant professional community.
If you are interested, please contact the Chair of SIGUCCS or feel free to speak to any of the officers.
5. Join our Online Community
Join our new online community. Participate in forum discussions, start a blog, keep in touch with SIGUCCS members, keep posted on upcoming events and share information.
6. Participate in the SIGUCCS Discussion Lists
SIGUCCS provides two e-mail discussion lists for ongoing communication and collaboration between people who are interested in discussing user services issues. You'll find that many schools have the same challenges and are willing to share best practices, ideas & help point you in the right direction.
