Professional Development Resources

SIGUCCS Online community: Join the SIGUCCS Online Community to participate in forum discussions, start a blog, keep in touch with SIGUCCS members, keep posted on upcoming events and share information.

Mentoring:
We are committed to developing IT Service and Support professionals. In the Fall 2012, we are starting a mentoring program to pair service professionals together for 1 year to learn and grow. We will pair professionals with individuals who work at similar institutions in similar jobs or who have similar development interests. The expectation is that mentors and mentees communicate once a month about professional development topics. The program proposal and outline is available in this PDF. If you are interested in being a mentor, mentee, or both, complete this form. This program runs from January through October. Applications are taken during November and pairings are done in December.

Workshops: Professional Development workshops are also offered in conjunction with the annual Management and Service and Support conference. Workshops are available for an additional fee to conference participants and other Service and Support professionals. Past workshops have included:

Women in IT listserv

Anyone interested in electronically discussing issues women in IT face and/or developing programs to encourage women to go into the IT profession is encouraged to join the Women in IT listserv, wit_bof@email.rutgers.edu. To subscribe, go to their website; note that you do not need to create any kind of password.

ACM Digital Library: SIGUCCS members have access to all papers published and presented during the Service and Support Conference portion of the annual conference through the ACM Digital Library, as well as to all papers presented at past Fall Conferences or User Service Conferences.

SIGUCCS Discussion Lists: SIGUCCS provides two e-mail discussion lists for ongoing communication and collaboration between people who are interested in discussing user services issues. You'll find that many schools have the same challenges and are willing to share best practices and ideas to help point you in the right direction.

SIGUCCS Webinars: Webinars are a great way to stay connected between conferences and experience some of the professional development opportunities that are provided through the SIGUCCS conferences. Our webinars are offered quarterly at no charge. Use this as an opportunity to participate as a team or individually.
